How can RTA restriction be lifted?

To remove an RTA restriction, such as a driver licence suspension or a vehicle registration cancellation, you need to pay all your outstanding enforcement orders.

If you cannot afford to pay your enforcement orders in full and need to apply for time to pay by instalments, we have the discretion to lift RTA restrictions even if the fines remain outstanding. We can do this under the following circumstances:

Read more information about RTA restrictions.

To apply to have your RTA restrictions lifted on the above grounds, please send a 'Time to Pay' application with supporting documentation as outlined in the RTA information sheet.

To process your application we will take a minimum of five working days from the date of receipt. We will tell you the outcome in writing.

Even if you do not meet any of the grounds for the lifting of RTA restrictions, we can lift RTA restrictions if you make six consecutive payments in line with your 'Time to Pay' schedule as long as you have never dishonoured on a time to pay order before.

Phone us to find out if you are eligible.
