Choose to go to court
You can request to have the penalty decided in court by completing an online request, a court election form or advise us in writing.
Note: Please choose carefully. From 31 March 2010, the law requires that SDRO cease considering any request for review once a court election is received. If you wish to submit a request for review by SDRO, do not also request to have the matter decided in court or refer to court election in your letter. Also, if you send a request for review it is unlikely that time will permit you to request to have the matter decided in court if the outcome of your review is unfavourable. If you are unsure whether to request a review or choose to have the matter decided in court, the SDRO Review guidelines may assist you in your decision or you can contact us to discuss your matter.
If you are considering going to court please read the Having Your Penalty Notice Decided in Court factsheet. If your penalty notice is for a camera detected offence, more information about going to court is also available from Roads and Maritime Services
If you choose to go to court, your fine will generally be listed at the local court nearest to where the offence occurred. A court attendance notice will be sent to you with details of the court and attendance date.
Note: Having a matter heard in court may involve paying additional court costs.
